David Lowell is one of the best-known Latin America discovery geologists in the history of Latin American mining. Arequipa Resources Ltd was his company, and contained properties of merit chosen from his experience as a geologist. He focused on a gold property near the city of Huaraz, in Ancash Department, which was called 'Pierina'. Gold at Pierina was discovered in 1993, and by 1996, the Pierina Gold Mine was in production after Arequipa Resources Ltd was purchased by Barrick Gold for $30/share or about C$760,000,000.00 The Pierina discovery was one of the best true low-risk investment ideas in the 90's, and investors were handsomely rewarded.
The La Victoria Gold/Silver Project has a number of similarities to the early stage discovery of the Pierina Gold Deposit. Both projects are in the Northern Peru Mineralized Belt and both are in Ancash Department, one of most prolific mining areas in a country known for mining.
The following analysis takes a 1996 news release and replaces parts of it with directly comparable results from the La Victoria Gold/Silver Project. Not everything is the same - the host rocks are different - but the setting of the mineralization appears to be the same, and the initial sampling at the La Victoria Gold/Silver Project shows directly comparable gold and silver grades.
