Frequentis AG: SESAR conference at FREQUENTIS reveals future of air traffic control
SESAR Virtual Centre Executive Day
Wien
(pta023/17.10.2019/12:31 UTC+2)
* Significant European air navigation service leaders attend the SESAR Virtual Centre Executive Day in Vienna.
* Virtual consolidation of air traffic control centres brings comprehensive benefits in terms of service continuity and cost efficiency.
* Since 2009, Frequentis has been a shareholder and partner in the Single European Air Traffic Management Research programme - SESAR - for the harmonisation of European airspace.
Frequentis AG (ISIN: ATFREQUENT09), a recognised technology leader in the field of air traffic control, hosted the high-ranking Virtual Centre event in Vienna on 16 October 2019. The presentations and live tests focused on the implementation of virtual centres in European air navigation services. A "Virtual Centre" is the technological combination of several air traffic control centres into a network of air traffic control units operating from different locations. They all use fully standardised operating methods, information, procedures, technical means, and equipment.
The "Virtual Centre Model" brings decisive advantages for operational flexibility, service continuity, and cost-efficient technical development. The virtual consolidation of control centres represents an important milestone in the modernisation of air traffic management. Since 2009, Frequentis has been a leading industry partner within the European research programme for the realisation of a Single European Sky.
Long-term security for Frequentis customers
Seven well-known European air navigation service providers (ANSPs) and leading industrial partners were involved in the live demonstrations in Vienna. The tests involved the step-by-step takeover of air traffic control sectors of another air navigation service provider, through the remote management from a remote air traffic control centre. This also provides a contingency solution.
The European experts attending the event - including Frank Jost, representative of the EU Directorate General for Mobility and Transport, Florian Guillermet, Executive Director of the SJU (the organisation entrusted with the implementation of SESAR), Iacopo Prissinotti, high-ranking Director of the European air navigation services, EUROCONTROL, as well as leading representatives of the German, French, Italian, Swiss, and Hungarian air navigation services - were impressed by the presentations and the maturity of the Virtual Centre solution.
Frequentis CTO Hermann Mattanovich is delighted with the successful tests: "Frequentis has been part of SESAR - one of the world's largest programmes for modernising and harmonising air traffic management - since 2009. In the current SESAR 2020 program, we can contribute our expertise for the development of product-related and interoperable solutions. This gives Frequentis customers the assurance that their systems are geared to future requirements in the long term and therefore represents a sustainable investment."
