* Commencing roll-out of first national drone management system in Norway
* Cloud-based Frequentis system enables the safe and efficient integration of drones into Norwegian airspace
* Expanding consulting services and sales in the field of drone management through strategic partnership with Finnish company Robots Expert
"We are delighted that our systems and components for the safe and secure management of manned and unmanned aviation are proving their worth in air traffic control.", says Frequentis CEO Norbert Haslacher. Together with its British partner Altitude Angel, Frequentis provides Norway's Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) Avinor with a drone management solution which will be used at 18 airport towers across Norway, to safely integrate drones into controlled airspace. The application spectrum is broad and includes Search and Rescue tasks as well as support for blue-light organisations and parcel services.
In August, the first systems for two airport towers in Norway were put into test operation, before being rolled out nationwide. The cloud-based drone management system provides an operational overview of the airspace and enables communication between air traffic control and drone pilots, ensuring the safe use of drones in the vicinity of airports.
This project supports the Norwegian governments drone strategy for the safe use of drones while tackling the rising number of reported incidents and airspace violations. The planned interfaces will guarantee the connection of security authorities, military, and other commercial, non-commercial, and governmental users. In addition, the project will evolve the commercial use of this technology to generate sustainable revenue streams.
Partnership with Robots Expert
In order to intensify Frequentis' activities in Northern Europe, a strategic partnership was agreed with the Finnish drone advisory specialist Robots Expert. Both companies are working on the development and implementation of digital concepts to support the safe use of drones. The main focus is on solutions for drone management in controlled and ground-level airspace (U-space).
For a safe co-existence of manned and unmanned aviation, data exchange and the processing of timely, reliable, and safety-critical data are necessary. Robots Expert offers consulting services for ANSPs, airport operators, city councils, municipalities, and other stakeholders to facilitate access to leading technology and solution providers. The cloud-based drone management system from Frequentis forms the central platform for digitalisation and innovative data exchange.
The pair aim to jointly engage different stakeholder interest groups ranging from ANSPs, airport operators, public safety agencies, city councils, drone operators, and pilots to improve support for the safe and efficient co-existence of manned and unmanned air traffic, while supporting their separate interests. "By combining our strengths in aviation systems with the consulting expertise and in-depth drone experience of Robots Expert, we intend to accelerate the introduction of drone management solutions in Estonia and Finland," says Frequentis CEO Norbert Haslacher.
