Zumtobel Group AG: Zumtobel Group confirms innovative strength: Tridonic and Zumtobel brands in top positions in patent applications

The European Patent Office (EPO) has once again confirmed the Zumtobel Group's innovative strength: the brands Tridonic and Zumtobel Lighting are among the leading patent applicants in Austria. With Tridonic in second place and Zumtobel in third place, the Zumtobel Group has secured two top 3 positions in the current ranking of the European Patent Office, which was published at the end of March 2025.

Research as a key to success
With 71 patent applications in 2024, Tridonic takes second place in the EPO ranking. This puts the company among the most innovative in Austria and emphasises its leading position as a technology driver in the lighting industry. With 55 new patent applications, Zumtobel Lighting ranks third among the top applicants from Austria in 2024 and thus also finds itself in the top ranks.

Innovation drives sustainability
The Zumtobel Group focuses on continuous development and pioneering solutions. Vorarlberg shows highest density of innovative companies
The Zumtobel Group's innovative strength also contributes to the high patent count in the state of Vorarlberg, where the company's headquarters are located. In a comparison of Austrian states, Vorarlberg ranks first in terms of the number of inventions in relation to the number of inhabitants, as reported by the Austrian Patent Office in March 2025.

Austria in the top 10 worldwide
Austria was able to maintain its good overall position in the ranking of European patent applications per million inhabitants. Globally, Austria is in 8th place and remains in 6th place in the EU, with Switzerland, Sweden and Finland in the top positions.
