Vienna (pta009/06.10.2020/08:40 UTC+2) * Successful Remote Site Acceptance Test for Frequentis maritime solution in Greenland
* Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) to increase safety at sea
* With the installation of the MarTRX solution, Frequentis is closing the gap in the area around the North Pole

Greenland is the largest island in the world and its important location between the Arctic, Canada, and the Nordics makes it part of major shipping routes. Additionally, the impact of global warming, melting ice caps, and rising sea levels draw attention to the importance of an efficient and reliable distress communication tool. TELE-POST, Greenland's postal and telecommunications provider, selected Frequentis in summer 2019 to provide an integrated maritime control room solution for the Technical and Operator Centre in Aasiaat, Greenland, to increase safety at sea.

The Site Acceptance Test (SAT) of the system had been scheduled for spring 2020, however the pandemic situation required additional planning and thus the tests were divided into an extensive internal test period followed by a remote acceptance procedure. Despite travel restrictions due to COVID-19, the Frequentis maritime project team completed a successful remote SAT for its Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) for Greenland. The Frequentis GMDSS has been added as a module for its integrated maritime control room solution MarTRX.

The Frequentis system in Aasiaat enhances transmitting voice messages, weather forecasts, and navigation warnings on any selected high frequency and very high frequency transmitters in any combination, from any operator workstation.

"The Frequentis MarTRX solution can be customised to meet differing needs of the maritime industry, including coastal surveillance and vessel traffic services. We are pleased to have successfully completed site acceptance for the GMDSS solution remotely, proving our determination and commitment to supporting our customers with their goals," said Khashayar Saravandi-Rad, Frequentis Vice President Maritime.
