The groundbreaking ceremony for the sixth facility of the ASTA Group took place on 12 December 2023 at 12:12. The long-established Austrian company, with a history stretching back more than 200 years, has become a global synonym for high-quality copper components in the field of high-performance transformers and generators. In addition to existing sites in Austria, China, India and Brazil, this expansion further strengthens the company's presence and competitiveness in Europe. Montana Aerospace has owned ASTA since 2012.
Cazin, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was chosen for the new factory because of its geographical proximity to the European Union. On the one hand, this strategic choice of location allows the ASTA Group to consistently pursue its corporate objectives. The focus is on expanding the company's competencies and capacities for the e-mobility market not only in Asia, but now also in Europe. On the other hand, the proximity to the universities in Bihać, as well as the technical and economic vocational schools in the city, with which good relations have already been established, is a decisive factor for the location. Access to talented and well-educated professionals plays a key role in the expansion of the ASTA Group.
"The facility in Bosnia, built on a total area of around 40,000 square metres, will allow us to almost double our capacity in the medium term," said Dr Karl Schäcke, CEO of the ASTA Group. In the new plant, the ASTA Group will manufacture advanced copper products for use in the electromobility and energy sectors.
When completed, the 17,000 square metre facility will provide attractive employment opportunities for more than 200 people. This significant job creation will not only contribute to the local economic landscape, but also create opportunities to strengthen the entire region. "ASTA's significant manufacturing expertise and innovations, resulting from the continuous evolution of technologies and manufacturing techniques, are the key foundations of the Group's successful growth strategy," said Dr Michael Pistauer, Co-CEO of Montana Aerospace AG.
Driven by the energy transition, in which the ASTA Group is significantly involved, the company is motivated to enter the construction phase of the new plant with a technical capacity of around 25,000 tonnes. The Cazin plant will manufacture products for the traditional energy sector and for the rapidly growing electric mobility market. ASTA is thus playing its part in making tomorrow's world a better place to live in.
