Clay pipes: 100% natural raw materials, long service-life and recyclable
- Steinzeug-Keramo pipe systems certified by independent institute
- Products meet strict ecological criteria for "cradle to cradle" certification
Steinzeug-Keramo, a subsidiary of Wienerberger and the world market leader in ceramic pipes for sewage systems, recently received "cradle to cradle" certification for its entire product line of pipes and fittings.
From "cradle to cradle": certified products meet strict ecological criteria
"Cradle to Cradle" means that products remain in a closed cycle from production to the end of the lifecycle and, after their lifespan, are fully recycled for the development of future products. Products certified as "cradle to cradle" must therefore meet very strict ecological criteria, which include the use of materials that are environmentally friendly, healthy and recyclable. The accreditation process also covers factors such as renewable energy, responsible water management and the company's social commitment. The certificate, which carries global validity, is awarded for a specific product and its production process. The products - ceramic pipes and fittings - at all four Steinzeug-Keramo locations were awarded the "cradle to cradle" certificate. This certification is presented by the independent Institute Environmental Protection Encouragement Agency (EPEA) and the "Cradle to Cradle" Products Innovation Institute (C2CPII).
Ceramic pipes represent ideal solutions for demanding sewage systems
Ceramic pipes have outstanding properties: they are made of 100% natural raw materials, are free of pollutants and completely recyclable. They can withstand aggressive wastewater and have a service life of more than 100 years. In addition, so-called jacking pipes can be laid easily without extensive earth movements: they are pushed through existing shafts below ground, which eliminates the need for extensive excavation. This not only protects the landscape and neighboring residents by minimizing noise and dust, but also saves time and costs. Because of their sustainable properties, pipe and wastewater systems made by Steinzeug-Keramo represent ideal solutions for demanding sewage systems in- and outside Europe. They help to safeguard the wastewater disposal for communities and all regions in Europe over the long-term.
Certification underscores commitment of Wienerberger to the creation of sustainable added value
Heimo Scheuch, Chief Executive Officer of Wienerberger Group, expressed his pleasure over this certification: "With Steinzeug-Keramo's innovative sewage systems, Wienerberger has made another important contribution to modern, affordable and sustainable wastewater management. This "cradle to cradle" certification confirms our continuous efforts to improve the ecological footprint of our products and underscores our commitment to the creation of sustainable added value in all areas of our business."
