Global market leader Intel supports EEBus approach for Smart Home
Connectivity increases comfort, safety and energy efficiency
Hanover/Cologne (pts013/12.03.2014/10:15) The global semiconductor market leader Intel joins with immediate effect the EEBus Initiative e.V. and supports it in the development of smart home and smart energy platforms and applications. Christian Morales, vice president and general manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Intel, announced that in Hanover (Germany) in context of the technology- and computer fair CeBIT 2014. The EEBus Initiative brings together international companies, associations and players in the areas of energy, telecommunications and electronics. Its goal: a globally standardized, consensus-based connectivity concept for all electronic devices based on the EEBus. The boundless connectivity is essential for the development of Intel's own business models. Intel is currently working intensively on solutions enabling all devices to have access to the internet and connectivity in general.
Dr. Bernhard Thies, 2. Chairman of the EEBus Initiative e.V is pleased with the new prominent member. "With the support of a global company, whose chips are already included in countless products, we are able to take a decisive step towards penetrating the market with the EEBus approach." The more products are integrated and the more diverse applications are offered, the higher the impact of connectivity in the fields of smart grid and smart home can be.
Intel and the founding member of EEBus Initiative, the connectivity and Smart Energy specialist Kellendonk (Cologne), already worked together successfully in the past. Within this cooperation, Kellendonk's software implementation of the EEBus was integrated in the latest generation of Intel chips and placed in a field trial lead by a German utility. The field test partners evaluate how different applications can run simultaneously on the same chip - but technically decoupled. In the future this allows multi-service gateways, which act as a cable router on the hand but which also can serve as energy management gateway with equivalent security requirements on the other hand. Intel wants to build a bridge between the traditional IT applications and the new services in the area of the Internet of Things.
Dr. Bernhard Thies is convinced that the member will lead to further developments of the networking platform especially in cooperation with the other members of the EEBus Initiative. Members of the EEBus Initiative are (excerpt): Bosch, Bosch and Siemens Home Appliances, E.ON, EnBW, Kabel Deutschland, Miele, Schneider Electric, SolarWorld, Somfy, SMA, Deutsche Telekom and Vaillant (complete list of members: http://www.eebus.org/eebus-initiative-ev/mitglieder/ ).
About the EEBus Initiative e.V.:
The non-profit organization EEBus Initiative e.V. networks the leading companies, associations and stakeholders in the German and international energy, telecommunications and electrical industry. Together, we develop EEBus as an open, standardised and consensus-oriented networking concept. Starting with linking Smart Grid and Smart Consumers, we are developing an approach above and beyond Smart Home and Building, to make a holistic concept for almost all Smart Devices. Through our combined strengths and competence we open up a new interdisciplinary market for smart connectivity. The aim: an increase in energy efficiency, comfort and security for the benefit of consumers, society, the environment and economy. Through active participation in the standardisation bodies, we are contributing to a modern, sustainable communication infrastructure and promoting networking and interoperability.
