R&M: The Rising Stars in Copper Cabling
STAR Real10 - a complete range for 10 Gigabit Ethernet
Wetzikon (CH) (pts013/01.09.2005/10:00) New: WARP technology makes unshielded components fit for the new high-end Ethernet
Real 10 Gigabit Ethernet under real operating conditions. Nothing less than this is acceptable to Reichle & De-Massari AG (R&M), the leading Swiss cabling specialist. They now present the complete program for the highest level of performance from twisted pair copper cabling: STAR Real10. The updated range includes shielded and unshielded solutions.
The STAR Real10 STP range is a natural continuation of the well-known STARsystem with shielded Cat. 6 / Class E components (STP = shielded twisted pair). Introduced in the year 2000, it already met back then the requirements for 10 Gigabit Ethernet that are only now under discussion - particularly because of high-quality shielding against crosstalk (Alien NEXT). This means: If you have installed the shielded Cat. 6 solution from R&M, you can migrate to 10 Gigabit Ethernet without any alteration or additional cost in the passive network infrastructure. More than three million channels have already been installed using the STP range, and are ready to upgrade now.
The new star from R&M is a 10 Gigabit Ethernet cabling solution for unshielded twisted pairs: STAR Real10 UTP is the name of the product range that will give you the same true 10 Gigabit Ethernet performance over a full 100-meter horizontal cabling path (UTP = unshielded twisted pair).
The performance of both the UTP and the STP components meets the criteria specified in Draft 2.0 of the planned IEEE 802.an standard (as of March 2005). R&M is sure that the standard will not be approved until the summer of 2006. "Nevertheless, the market wants reliable solutions right now. With STAR Real10, we guarantee the performance for real 10 Gigabit Ethernet under real operating conditions - not maybe under laboratory conditions", states R&M Product Manager Regina Good-Engelhardt. Also, R&M is still the only manufacturer that rigorously tests every single Cat. 6 component that is assembled at its Swiss production facility, making it the global leader in quality assurance.
As the recognized market leader in shielding technology, R&M has brought this Know-how into the world of unshielded cabling. The newly developed WARP technology used in the UTP solution ensures effective protection against crosstalk, making it fit for 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
WARP is short for Wave Reduction Patterns - a cover that clips over the connector modules or a wrapping of foil segments placed around the UTP cable. WARP installation cables more than meet up with the values for Alien NEXT and Alien FEXT specified in the standard still under discussion. They are as easy to connect up as conventional UTP cables. The innovative shielding elements do not need separate grounding, while the entire network should also be grounded as before. Users can utilize existing distribution panels, as the spacing between the connections does not have to be increased. Optimized patch cords complete the STAR Real 10 UTP range.
With STAR Real10 UTP, R&M presents an unshielded solution that gives real 10 Gigabit channel quality over 100 meters using standard R&M patch panels and installation socket outlets. R&M provides the same built-in ease of installation with the shielded solution, too. The ground contact is made automatically when the connection is made. Experience shows that producing shielded connections using the STAR Real10 range only takes about ten seconds longer than a UTP connection, and no additional tools are needed, either.
