The skillful use of colors and diverse motifs characterize the amazing paintings of the artist
Zurich (ptp016/30.07.2020/12:00) The Scottish artist Caroline Harper will exhibit her artworks "Messy Hair" and "Apple Tree" as well as her new artist catalogue in the Zurich Main Station Hall during the SWISSARTEXPO from 20 to 24 August 2020. The SWISSARTEXPO is an art festival that offers talented artists the opportunity to present their works in one of the most visited halls in Europe.
Caroline Harper was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and has been living in Zurich, Switzerland since 2011. In his work Éloge du maquillage (1863), the French writer Charles Baudelaire describes fashion as a constant attempt to change and manipulate nature until it evolves into something perfect. Like Baudelaire, Caroline Harper is interested in how we can artificially alter our natural state to create something new and beautiful. The punk scene, Jean-Paul Gaultier's costumes in the Fifth Element, Giorgio Armani's photography, the world of the Geisha, anime culture, as well as pop stars like Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga and Sia, are all inspirations for her artistic work.
When painting, Harper always starts with a photograph as the basis. She quickly transfers the part of the photograph which she is most drawn to - usually the face - onto the canvas with rapid movements. With the help of this foundation, she lets the work unfold step by step. In order to gain a different perspective, she takes photographs of the artwork at regular intervals to help her develop a clearer idea of what she wants to achieve with her work. "My work echoes how I feel during the creative process" says Harper. "Once a painting is complete, it's time to learn how it resonates with others."
At the SWISSARTEXPO 2020 Caroline Harper will exhibit her paintings "Messy Hair" (2018) and "Apple Tree" (2020) in figurative style and warm colours. In addition, her new artist catalogue will also be available on site to give visitors an even deeper insight into her creative work. All art lovers are cordially invited to visit her artwork and the art catalogue personally from 20 to 24 August 2020 in the SBB Event Hall at Zurich Main Station during the SWISSARTEXPO.
