Führende Unternehmen der Breitbandindustrie gründen offene Plattform
Wien (pts021/24.03.2003/11:22) Content-, Unterhaltungselektronik- und Telekomindustrie werden zum Mitmachen eingeladen, um diese Massenmarkt-Chance zu ergreifen
Weltweit führende Dienstleistungsanbieter und Solution Provider aus der DSL-Breitbandindustrie und Unterhaltungselektronik haben ihre Absicht verlautbart, ein offenes Geschäftsmodell für interaktive Entertainment-Dienste auf Basis der DSL-Breitbandtechnologie zu entwickeln, unterstützen und standardisieren.
Folgende Unternehmen gehören der Gruppe an: Alcatel (Paris : CGEP.PA and NYSE : ALA), Belgacom, Philips Consumer Electronics, Bluewin/Swisscom, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, Telekom Austria (VSE:TKA; NYSE:TKA) und Thomson.
Die Anzahl von Breitband-Usern weltweit wird bis 2005 voraussichtlich die 150 Millionen Grenze erreichen. Breitband wird rasch zu einem Massenmarkt und einem lukrativen Distributionskanal für Online-Content und -Dienste.
"Unter den derzeit 36 Millionen Breitband-Kunden besteht bereits jetzt große Nachfrage nach Online-Content wie etwa Filme, Spiele und Musik. Das stellt eine große Chance für die Content-, Unterhaltungselektronik- und Telekomindustrie dar. Wir sind überzeugt, dass alle von der Entwicklung gemeinsamer Standards profitieren werden", erläutert Alan Pyne, Leiter bei Schema, Europas führender unabhängiger Unternehmens-beratungsagentur im Technologie- und Medienbereich.
Die Voraussetzung zur Realisierung dieser bedeutenden Marktchance ist ein gemeinsames Verständnis der technischen sowie der Geschäftsabläufe und eine harmonisierte Vorgangsweise der Hauptakteure innerhalb der Dienstleistungskette.
Derzeit erarbeitet die Gruppe eine Reihe von Vorschlägen zur Realisierung eines Geschäftsmodells zur Bereitstellung von interaktiven Unterhaltungsdiensten auf Breitband-Basis, das für alle Beteiligten profitabel ist.
Die Gruppe ist um zusätzliche Unterstützung und Beteiligung von anderen Breitband-Stakeholdern, einschließlich der Content-Industrie, bemüht mit dem Ziel im späteren Jahresverlauf den entsprechenden Standardisierungsinstituten einen akkordierten Vorschlag zu unterbreiten.
